Greed is ruining VRBO

I plan to move to another platform since VRBO decided to not only hike the rates for owners to list but also to add a " service fee" ( which by the way I already pay a property manager to do these things that VRBO says they will Cover under a service fee) unannounced. I plan to live out my contract with them Through May them move to Other platforms such as Airbnb My bookings have dried up with this new service fee and potential Renters are even Angry. VRBO even tried to add the fee to a booking I had made in October and was paid in December ( service fee was $500 and appeared to come out of my payout until I wrote them And demanded it be refunded - forget getting a life person in the phone as hold Times are over an hour each time I called to complain

the only trouble is it does not have a lot of functionality, meaning that there are only a few things that you can do on the app.

This app is terrible..Sorry...no other way to put it. Not functional from an owner standpoint. Why would you not start with the owners dashboard?

Likened to charging $1500 for a cancer pill, they are using access to your rental property as of Feb 2016 to blackmail guests into paying a service fee for service (or phone support) neither of us receive! All I ever asked for was an advertising platform. I handle all the logistics, money, cleaning, contracts, mailing, maintenance and issues myself. Bye bye HomeAway...

Home Away now extracts roughly 10% fee- likely more- for renting your property. Its hard to add up the total cost, since there is a listing fee, a promotion fee, a payment fee, and the new "service" fee. You cover the liability, the taxes, the insurance and the hassle... And they cover the profit. Just waiting to talk to customer service is a 30 minute experience.

Dumb app...

The app functionality is basically the same as the previous version except now I need two apps if I plan to use VRBO as a traveler. The dumbness starts before you even open it. The displayed title on your screen is "Owner". Not "VRBO Owner" or "VRBO/HO Portal" or "Rental Portal" or any of a hundred far more descriptive titles. Dont even get me started with the newest fees and charges that Im sure is bankrolling this fine example of "marketing" which is producing LESS inquiries than prior. A long time VRBO user is moving elsewhere.

Class Action Lawsuit

New fee is breach of owners contracts and provides no necessary service to either renters or owners. Efforts to call and email re this have been stonewalled. Have directed our lawyers to look into class action lawsuit to recover damages for owners and renters, and enjoin company from continuing fee. Also wondering what other rental service we can switch to. New app is more trouble than its worth.

Less functionality for more money

The old app combined rental and trip management and allowed editing of your listing. Now we have to have 2 separate apps and new rental app doesnt allow edits to listing or the "improved marketing and tools" we were supposed to get with the huge new fees they charge. What a sham. Will be switching rental platforms.

Shameful

Its absolutely disgusting to have found out that VRBO is now double dipping. As a property owner they never told us, had no idea, until I started looking closely at the quotes they were giving travelers and noticing an additional "service fee", I immediately called and they threatened me that if I didnt book my clients through their system that I would get limited viewing of my properties, and I told them how do they threaten me, they were contractually committed to me with all the marketing and that needs to continue and if clients called me to ask questions and reserve thats entirely their prerogative. It was a horrible cold and threatening call, in fact after that conversation they called me back and left a voicemail telling me of the new system and that it was mandatory. This is absolutely nothing but greed and deteriorating the entire service they offer. I hope someone else comes up with another App that will replace this greed

Greedy and pathetic

No reason for them to charge MY customers after I already them!!! Pathetic!!! I will be canceling my account.

App update broken

Just updated the owner app and it wont let me login...error message repeatedly. I deleted the app and downloaded again from appstore with strong wifi and gave me "check your connection, unable to login" PLEASE FIX THIS!!!

App is horrible

Kicks me out of the app every time and then gives me an error when I am trying to sign in using my proper password and user name. In addition the service fee is to much now. Looks like Airbnb is the new way to go.

Shame

Shame on VRBO. Will not be renewing my contract. Greed at its worst.

Switching to Airbnb

Ive loved my experience as an owner through homeaway alas the Expedia buy out has ruined it. The guest fee is outrageous on top of a yearly $1000 that I pay. The new app is junk. Sad to end my relationship but Ill take my guests with me to your competitor. You guys blew it.

I started at "pay as u go". Seemed fine, except HUGE fees, so I start paying for subscription & My listing drops to the bottom & becomes impossible to find

Goodbye from a longtime client

Not only is this app lousy, the service VRBO is offering is a big ripoff. Ive had problems getting notifications from guests requesting to book and have missed out on almost $3000 in revenue due to this bug. Also, Not only do I pay $400/yr to list my house, I also pay fees for paying and reimbursing guests that really add up. Now, since bought by Expedia, large service fees are being collected by VRBO. I am forced to switch to a local rental company or Airbnb since its become too expensive and burdensome for both guests and me to handle. Save the aggravation and stay away from the new Homeaway/VRBO.

Broken; ignore this app

Terribly defective & bug-riddled app, almost useless. All the 1-star reviews are well-deserved, as well as complaints about homeaways price-gouging "fees" & "services". So glad theres airbnb out there.

Terrible App

Ive updated my info and it just keeps asking if I want to open the travelers app....NO, Im signing into the owners app. If I wanted the Travelers app, I would sign into that one. And the "Service Fee" is ridiculous!! Exactly what is being improved by this fee?? Obviously NOT the apps! Very disappointed in VRBO!

Doesnt notify of booking requests=lost money

This version wont notify me when someone has asked a question or submitted a booking request. We have missed out on several rentals as we arent able to constantly check the app or our emails for perspective guests.
